Back in the Guelph! It snowed here last night. God I hate winter so much! (not you Chris). Sorry, lets keep things positive here. If you shift your gaze slightly to the right you’ll see a mighty NB adorning the blog. I want to give a shout out to the fine folks at New Balance, ya’ll make a hell of a shoe there team. I was hesitant put the NB on the blog due to the occasional not so family friendly content on leBlog. But they seem to be cool with it, so bam! there it is. Also, I just want to add, if you run in New Balance you are smart, and you’ll run fast. If you don’t, well then you are kinda dumb. You may still be fast in other shoes, but you just won’t look as cool whilst doing so. Sorry folks that’s just the way is, it’s science.
In other news, my little road trip was the tits. Fort Collins was pretty much awesome, but what would you expect from the best city in America? It was good to see some old buddies and I even made three new friends when I was there. Wanna meet my new friends? okay, well Rufe and AnnMarie are from the Kirkpatty tribe, they are the bees knees,hi guys. Then there is this one guy named Colin. Colin came to my aid and became my drinking buddy when Dave hit the beer wall and had to go to bed early. It’s kinda weird with Colin because he is dating a lady I used to date. But it’s okay, he’s younger than me and was much better at bocce ball, I can’t be upset that she upgraded, it happens folks…it happens…*sigh*
Anyways, so yeah Fort Collins is rad, that was expected. Know what wasn’t expected? I’ll tell ya what wasn’t expected, Milwaukee. Yeah, Milwaukee was completely unexpected. Well, I knew that it was there, it’s not like I was driving and stumbled upon this random city by accident. No, Milwaukee was unexpected because it just so happens to be effing awesome! Man, this city was quite fun. My buddy Matt, and his lovely wife Lauren live in the Mil. I spent a few days taking in the sights and sounds of this lovely little place. Feb 23rd is Fred Usinger day in Milwaukee, and it is officially my new favourite holiday. We started off the celebrations with a brewery tour at the Lakefront brewery. $7 gets ya 6beers and a pint glass to take home. We rocked that brewery hard! We then went downtown for some free brauts and beers to celebrate Milwaukee’s sausage king. Matt and I were accompanied by some friendly locals that we met on the brew tour, the people in Milwaukee are just so friendly! We ate some delicious brauts and drank exquisite beer, all the while listening to authentic polka music (vocals provided by the keyboardist from the Violent Femmes!?) and playing hammerschlagen. What is hammerschlagen? It is a drinking game in which competitors take turns hitting a nail into a stump. Yeah, pretty simple, yet with the right amount of beer amazingly fun as well (to much beer and it becomes amazingly hard). Matt and I continued here for a little while until we finished up the night with some frozen custard and a trip to see the bronze fonz. Perfect Milwaukee day, ya’ll should hit up the Mil someday, tell em’ Rob sent you.
|Hammerschlagen! Bronze Fonz, ehhh! Found a random mask.|
So lets talk a little about running now. I had a lot of alone time during my drives on that trip to reflect and think about running. I came to a couple conclusions. I have decided that I really love this sport, but I also decided that I have to get faster! I’m giving myself a certain amount of time to achieve some certain goals. But I’m not worried, I’ve got a great coach and a great training group, I figure it’ll workout. I have also come up with some new theories and ideas towards training that I think I’m going to have to test out in hopes of getting faster. I’m excited to get back to work on the roads and trails. I certainly have a lot of work to do before I’m ready to race again. I’ve grown a little beer belly and my fitness is certainly lacking. But hell it’s late Feb and I have plenty of time until the Rosen on April 2nd, lets get at it! Okay everyone have a great week.
Alright, so here’s the deal. Just got back to Guelph after my little road trip. Had a 10hr drive, but drank enough coffee to make it at least 14hrs. So now I can’t sleep, might as well blog this sucker.
So, Fort Collins was awesome. I hung out with my old buds, made some new buds, and drank a lot of beer in the process. It was great, but that was expected. But you do know what was not expected? Do you know what caught me completely by surprise? Milwaukee, yeah MF’ing Milwaukee. That place is awesome! My University roommate Matt and his lovely wife Lauren reside in the Mil and I stopped in for a few days on the way home. Matt called in sick to work for a couple days and we proceeded to get back into university mode and run wild through the streets of Milwaukee, and as I said before, it was rad. Look at this everyone, just look, they have the Bronze Fonz! Yeah, that is the Fonz from happy days, he just hangs out by the river forever emitting his coolness to all the folks in the Mil. That little statue just made me giggle like a little girl. I didn’t know the Fonz was so short.
