Blog #28

I heard ‘Pretty Fly for a White Guy’ on the radio the other day. Is there a worse song in the history of mankind? This song sucks so much balls it is almost unfathomable. Sure, there are a whole lot of crappy songs out there. Pick any offering from the Backstreet Boys, Creed or Nickleback and they too could be in the running as the worst song in the world.  But what makes PFFAWG  rise to the top of the shit pile is the fact that the Offspring used to be quite rad. The Offspring was a legit awesome So-Cal punk band, they rocked hard.  Ignition and Smash are two fantastic albums. What the hell Offspring? One day they just woke up and said “I want a Mansion” and proceeded to write PFFAWG, this horrible steaming pile of shit.  It is expected that as bands progress in their careers that their sound will change and evolve. This was not the case with PFFAWG, the Offspring clearly just wanted to write a commercial hit to make some dough. There is absolutely nothing good about this song. It sucks, it just sucks. I wish I had a better grasp of the English language so that I could better articulate the horribleness of this song.  It’s kinda like how Brittany Spears used to be smoking hot, then she just let herself go. It’s okay to be ugly, there are a lot of ugly people out there. But when you used to be hot as hell and then just give up on the hotness and get ugly, that is just not right and that makes the ugliness so  much worse. Catch my drift? Okay, lets move on.
So I’ve decided to resurrect my twitter career. Round 2 of twitter is going much better than round 1. Twitter is actually kinda fun. I’m becoming somewhat of a social networking whore, but I’m okay with that.
What else do we have going on. Want a little running update? Well here it is.  I’ve decided not to do the half champs in Montreal. I’m not 100% healthy and I’m only 50% fit. I don’t think it would be a smart idea to even try it. Kinda lame, but there are much more important things to worry about and focus on. Reider will go in there and represent the river quite well I’m sure, he’s pretty good. The good news is that I am back to running everyday.  Gotta give a shout out to Brenda Scott-Thomas here, she has done a great job in helping me progress through this annoying little set back. Brenda is a top notch physio. Thanks Brenda!
Some more shout outs; Congrats to Gilly Boy for defending his Harry Spring Run-Off title, he pretty much dominated everyone else in that park.
Shout out to the young lads of UNC doing solid work on the track. Those guys are lighting it up so far this season. Issac rocked a 3:42 this past weekend in Florida! Nice job coach Pete. Keep those kids rolling. The more the idiots in LetsRun bash, the better you know you are. Seriously is there a bigger bunch dummies in the world than the peanut gallery on the Letsrun message board? Sure there are some good topics and some very informative posters, but eventually some dumbass will come and ruin it.  There are just some small, bitter folks out there who will  try to undermine everything. Galen Rupp just rocks a 60min half…yeah but he wore a weird looking mask, so therefore he sucks. Seriously!? People on LetsRun were actually coming up with bad shit to say about Solinsky after he ran 26:59, are you friggen kidding me! gah!
Oh man, I gotta go. Bye!

Pretty funny as always. Thanks for the running update too.

Does Brenda do Active Release techniques? – I'm just wondering because I saw someone recommend that for tendinitis on guess where? — letsrun! ART is quite painful I understand but works too – so I gather. Is it even more painful than regular massage therapy?

    Second coming of Andy Rooney.

Good call on passing on Montreal. Will you go to chear on your mates/eat some Crepes?
Avoid my PB Dip as you regain the other 50% of fitness. You don't want good legs and floppy pecs.
What's the backstory on Letsrun/Pete? (Just had my 3rd baby last weeknd, my 3rd boy, yeah!! No time to go read LR).
    Ps PPFWAWG does blow!

Hey Bob, Brenda does dabble in ART, so does our fantastic massage guy Marcel Merez. ART is great, but yeah it hurts like hell!
PR, Congrats on the Baby! that's awesome! I want to go to montreal and get some Poutine/crepes but I'll stay in Guelph and help out at the Billy Taylor road race. I will try to avoid the junk food as I regain fitness. As for Pete and Letsrun, it is just the standard Letsrun fare. You know whenever someone does something good the fine folks on Letsrun will tear it down and say they suck. But it's good because they only tear down the good folk on that site, slow people are left alone.

Thanks! 3 boys all under 4.5, I've got my work cut out for me. Hopefully they'll keep the River Jrs stocked in about 10 years.
If you're staying in Guelph Eggcetera at York/Victoria Rd has great crepes, There's also Cora's in the plaza by Shakespere's Arm. I haven't been there yet, but there's "Pierre's Poutine" downtown Guelph. (My twin brother's name is Pierre. I'll have to bug him about this poutine franchise). TTFN, enjoy the nice (yeah right) weather.
Ps. Any recent 'sightings' from Mademoiselle Crotchy? :)

Hey PR, That is a lot of young kids! Damn! Love the Pierre's Poutine, I make my own crepes though, those other places are trash compared to my product. Luckily I have not been spending much time the cardio room so I havn't seen vagina girl recently. Take care man.

Yes, lots of very young kid and close together. Its like my 'swimmers' were coached by DST.

No need for me to wonder why I couldn't crack sub 20 at Wintercross or Devil's run. Shiftwork/Kids/long commute. Damn I need lotto Max. How do you fit it in, you have a job too, no?

Alas, you'll be there too, one day. A fine Guelph lady will catch your eye (not the gym one) and you'll be having your wedding reception at Creelman Hall. Come speech time, you'll be listening to all the incriminating stories retold from your River Mates.

Enjoy the afternoon naps and doubles when you can. Your blog and tweets let guys like me live vicariously through you (but not completely).

Thanks for indulging your readership with responses, you're very accommodating. I'll taper back the banter and stop hijacking your space. Give 'em hell out there!

Hey PR, I manage to fit work and running together by working for an awesome company that is very understanding and very lenient, only putting in 15-20hr weeks is also quite manageable.
I appreciate the feedback and I dig it when people comment on the blog. One of the coolest parts about being a runner is the community that comes with partaking in this crazy sport. Thanks for all the support man, maybe I'll see ya out there on the roads sometime. Good luck squeezing in some running with all those young ones.

    Beet juice?

  11. Rob Watson says:

That's my pre-track race caffeine protocol.
